About the role
Reporting to the Senior Legal Manager, Generation and Development, the Senior Lawyer – Major Project Development is a key legal stakeholder supporting the Merchant Energy business pillar in the development of large-scale energy projects in line with Alinta’s decarbonisation strategy. This is a diverse role focusing heavily on exciting major, long-term projects, but also supporting Alinta Energy’s broader portfolio and development pipeline - no two days are the same!

What you’ll do
Provide comprehensive legal support and advice on all matters relating to major development projects (power generation and storage).
Support SLM in managing and delivering legal function for all development projects
Coordinate, manage, draft and negotiate project documents (e.g. EPC contracts, connection agreements, PPAs,) with support from external and internal legal advisors.
Provide advice on the strategic planning for development projects.
Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with development projects.
Manage the provision of all legal services (including external legal service providers) to the projects.
Work collaboratively and effectively with multiple business partners including insurance, tax, treasury and governance teams.
Your experience
Law degree, admitted to practice in an Australian jurisdiction.
Current practising certificate
Minimum 8 years legal experience (with a major law firm or in an in-house counsel role with a major company).
Experience in project development and delivery
Commerciality and a keen awareness of business strategy.
Ability to develop and maintain strong internal working relationships.
Able to transform legal issues into workable solutions within a business context.
Energy or construction experience is highly desirable but not required.
